ZOLOCHE
Kiev region, Ukraine, 2020
This countryside villa is located on the bank of a tributary of the Dnipro River in one of the cottage communities near Kyiv. The site features a complex topography with a pronounced change in elevation, as well as непосредственную proximity to the water, which became a key factor in shaping the architectural concept. The volumetric and spatial composition of the building is based on a combination of лакonic, clearly defined geometric volumes. The composition creates a выразительный silhouette with strong horizontal accents, emphasized by deep roof overhangs and canopies. The upper volume, clad with vertical light-toned lamellas, appears to “float” above the more open and transparent ground level, creating a sense of lightness and динамики. The façade combines several materials: vertical wooden or composite lamellas, large-format glazing, and light porcelain stoneware surfaces. This combination creates a restrained yet expressive contemporary image, where the textures of materials play a key role. The ground floor is максимально open to the site and is organized as a continuous space with direct access to the terrace. Panoramic glazing blurs the boundary between interior and exterior, opening views toward the pool and inner courtyard. The central element of the outdoor space is a 12-meter swimming pool integrated into a wooden deck, which transitions into a covered lounge area with a seating group and a fireplace. Adjacent to it is a barbecue area protected by a canopy, allowing year-round use.
On the street-facing side, the house has a more closed and private character. Here, the entrance zone includes a garage and a large carport, integrated into the overall architectural composition. A brick fence and minimalist metal elements form a restrained and solid street frontage.
Functionally, the ground floor is divided into a day zone that includes a living room, kitchen, and dining area, as well as a separate guest block with a bedroom and a private bathroom. Technical and auxiliary spaces complement the layout.
The second floor is fully dedicated to the private area. It includes a spacious master bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and an en-suite bathroom, as well as two children’s bedrooms sharing a bathroom. Large window openings provide abundant natural light and open views of the surrounding landscape.
As a result, the project creates a contemporary suburban living environment that combines clarity of architectural form, functionality, and a strong connection with nature, ensuring a high level of comfort and privacy.
